John Bruno Director / Visual Effects Supervisor
Director JOHN BRUNO is an Academy Award winner and veteran of feature films and commercials. He won his Oscar for his work on THE ABYSS and was on the Academy Award Winning Visual Effects team of AVATAR. He has also been nominated for an Oscar six-times in the field of Visual Effects for his work on Ghostbusters, Poltergeist II, Batman Returns, Cliffhanger and True Lies. He is one of the most acclaimed and sought after visual effects artists and directors in Hollywood.
Bruno was a co-founder and commercial director at Digital Domain. He was also a co-founder at Boss Film Studios and while at Boss, the studio produced Visual Effects for such films as Ghostbusters, Poltergeist 2, 2010, Die Hard, Batman Returns and Cliffhanger.
Bruno received a Belding Award for his short theatrical film THE RUN that ran in theatres in 2002. For the making of film, which introduced the 2003 Nissan 350 Z,
Bruno �shut down� the city of Prague (Czech Republic) for 3 consecutive days.
Between 1999 and 2000 Bruno directed multiple episodes of Star Trek Voyager and in 2001 served as Producer and second unit director on Jim Cameron�s �Ghosts of the Abyss� (3-D Imax). On that film, Bruno made two additional dives to the Titanic with the star of the production Bill Paxton. He would then team up with Cameron again for the 2009 Academy Award winning blockbuster, Avatar, as one of the film�s visual effects supervisors.
In 1995, John spent 5 months in the pre-production phase of Titanic as Visual Effects Supervisor before being offered the opportunity to direct Virus, staring Jamie Lee Curtis and Donald Sutherland. Prior to this, he designed the Visual Effects for James Cameron�s Terminator II and Co-directed Terminator 2-3D with Cameron. In the early 80�s, he served as the department supervisor for animation effects at ILM during the productions of Poltergeist, ET, Star Trek II and Return of the Jedi.
